Selling on eBay: Be Cautious of Spam and Spoof Emails

In my last post, I highlighted the importance of checking your eBay messages. When doing so, you will want to do so directly from the eBay.com website. If you are not careful, you could fall victim to an online scam. These scams are commonly referred to as phishing scams or spoof email scams.

What will happen is that you will get a message that says it is from eBay. Unfortunately, not all really are. But, when you click on the link that allows you to view the message, you will be asked to enter in your eBay user name and password. If the email is a phishing email or a spoof email, a scammer will essentially walk away with your important eBay information.

That is why it is a good idea to check your eBay messages directly from the eBay.com website instead of clicking on a link in an email.
